Aims

Within five years, CAIR should be an internationally recognised research centre with significant levels of industrial and interdisciplinary academic collaboration.  It should be self-funding, of service to the local and wider community and provide valuable feedback into the undergraduate and postgraduate computing curriculum.

Objectives

We will continue to provide a supportive and encouraging environment for research active individuals to conduct original research, publish and present new material, seek funding and sponsorship and serve as referees, editors and members of expert committees and professional bodies.

We will continue to build on our established international links to develop further our programmes of cross-border collaborative research in line with an expanding European Union.

Strategy

These aims and objectives will be achieved through development of the following areas.

Reputation

CAIR members will continue to engage in research and consultancy: publishing  and presenting papers in journals and at conferences and refereeing and editing papers and proceedings.  We will look constantly for relevant opportunities to involve CAIR in the local and wider community.  CAIR plans to expand its PhD/MPhil programme and is currently planning towards the next Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008).

Income

We will continue to seek funding for the group through Knowledge Transfer Programmes (KTPs), Research Council applications, commercial and academic collaborations and our existing professional and industrial links.

Support

We will exert appropriate pressure on management to have the value of research, scholarly activity and commercial enterprise recognised fully in terms of the realistic allocation of time and resources.

Curriculum

We will seek to continue to expand our postgraduate degree and professional qualifications programme and ensure that cutting-edge material is introduced into the level three undergraduate and masters curriculum.  Graduating students will be encouraged to consider research work as a potential future.
