B.Sc. (Hons.) ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
A Programme with Three Pathways
The Environmental Studies programme at NEWI aims to widen students’ awareness of environmental issues, to increase students’ ability to analyse them and to evaluate and influence policies. It also enhances students’ understanding of the practicalities of environmental management for sustainable development.
North East Wales offers an excellent environment for local field study. In addition, a field course module is based on a contrasting locality in Spain, France or the Netherlands.
The degrees offered by NEWI are validated by the University of Wales. As an Associate College of the University of Wales, NEWI is committed to high academic standards. The Funding Council’s teaching quality assessments and External Examiner reports have consistently emphasised the excellent student support provided by accessible staff.
Environmental Studies is available as a Single Honours degree with three pathways leading to three degree outcomes:
B.Sc. (Honours) Environmental Studies
B.Sc. (Honours) Environmental Studies (Management)
B.Sc. (Honours) Environmental Studies (Science)
It is also available on a part-time basis over an extended period of time or by single module.
The Environmental Studies pathway includes more geographically-based modules running through Levels 2 and 3, together with the vocationally-orientated mapping and GIS module.
The Environmental Studies (Management) pathway has more management-based modules pertaining to business and field-orientated ecology modules with a compulsory practical conservation management module at Level 3.
The Environmental Studies (Science) pathway has a number of practical, analytical science modules, leading up to environmental monitoring and control at Level 3.
As all students on the Environmental Studies programme have a common first year, it is thus possible to delay your decision regarding your preferred pathway until completion of Level One.
